Meet Galina Arkadievna: 40+ Years of Teaching English and IELTS Success
Behind every great teacher, there is often another teacher.
For Green School founder Tatiana Green, that person is Galina Arkadievna - her mother, her first English teacher, and today one of the most experienced teachers at Green School.
With more than 40 years of teaching experience, a CELTA qualification and decades of working with students of different ages and nationalities, Galina continues to do what she has always done: teach, learn and help students achieve results that once seemed out of reach.
The Teacher Behind the Founder
Tatiana’s own English journey started with her mother.
Galina taught her English so well that at the age of 18, Tatiana took IELTS for the first time without any specific exam preparation and received Band 7.5.
At the time, Tatiana did not think there was anything particularly unusual about it.
She simply thought everyone learned English like that.
Years later, after becoming a teacher herself and eventually founding Green School, she understood just how much of that foundation came from having an exceptional teacher from the very beginning.
More Than 40 Years of Teaching Experience
Galina Arkadievna has been teaching English for over four decades.
Today, she works with students of different ages, backgrounds and nationalities. Alongside her work with Green School, she also teaches international students offline in Australia.
Her experience covers General English and international English exams, including IELTS and other testing formats. The exception is PTE, which is handled by other specialists within the Green School team.
But experience does not mean relying on methods learned decades ago.
Quite the opposite.
Galina continues to study herself, master new technology, use new applications and adapt her teaching to the way students learn today.
CELTA-Qualified English Teacher
Several years ago, Galina added another qualification to her extensive teaching experience: CELTA.
CELTA is a widely recognised English language teaching qualification awarded by Cambridge.
For a teacher who had already spent decades in the classroom, going back to studying herself was not a necessity. It was a choice.
And perhaps that says more about her approach to teaching than any number of years on a CV.
At Green School, we believe that good teachers never really stop being students themselves.
From Elementary English to an IELTS Target Score
The best way to understand Galina’s work is through her students.
One student came to Green School at Elementary level and needed IELTS General. After studying with Galina twice a week for nine weeks, she reached the score she needed.
She later wrote that Galina helped her understand the structure of IELTS, provided plenty of examples and feedback, clearly identified mistakes and made the preparation process much more comfortable and effective.
Another student had already taken IELTS independently twice, receiving an overall Band 6.0 both times.
Her problem was not simply a lack of English knowledge. She did not understand the specifics of the exam or how to turn the English she already knew into the score she needed.
After several individual lessons with Galina, she took IELTS again and achieved Band 6.5 overall, including Band 7.0 in Speaking.
She received the score she needed and went on to become a student at a Canadian university.
IELTS 7.0 and Another Target Achieved
Another Green School student described her IELTS preparation with Galina as structured, practical and focused on the areas that actually needed improvement.
Her result:
Listening - 6.5
Reading - 8.0
Writing - 6.5
Speaking - 7.5
Overall - 7.0
In her review, she highlighted something we consider especially important in exam preparation: personalised feedback.
A good IELTS teacher should not simply explain the exam. They need to identify your particular weak points, understand what is preventing you from reaching the target and work on those areas step by step.
Not Everything Is About IELTS
Galina also teaches General English.
Students mention her clear grammar explanations, organised lessons and, importantly, the amount of speaking practice they get in class.
One B2 student described how Galina encouraged the group to speak as much as possible, discuss topics without preparation and practise through reading and listening activities.
The result was not an exam score this time.
It was something equally important: feeling more confident in English.
Another student wrote that before meeting Galina, she had tried many different teachers. Staying with one teacher for such a long time was an achievement in itself.
Sometimes that is the best review a teacher can receive.
Is It Ever Too Late to Learn?
Galina is also a good answer to one of the questions we hear surprisingly often: Am I too old to learn?
She continues to study, explore new technologies, learn new applications and develop professionally herself.
And she teaches students across different generations.
Learning does not have an expiration date.
Neither does good teaching.
